Compliance Manager / MLRO

Location: Altrincham, Greater Manchester
Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 depending on experience

An established and growing UK financial services business is looking to appoint an experienced Compliance Manager / MLRO to join its team.
Reporting to senior leadership, you will play a key role in maintaining and developing a robust compliance framework, providing practical regulatory guidance across the business and ensuring the firm continues to meet its FCA and wider regulatory obligations.

This is a broad role offering the opportunity to take ownership of the compliance function while working closely with senior stakeholders and supporting the continued growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO).
  • Maintain and enhance horizon scanning and regulatory change processes.
  • Manage and develop the firm's SM&CR arrangements.
  • Oversee and maintain the compliance policy framework.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of regulatory returns.
  • Provide practical compliance advice and guidance across the business.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex compliance matters.
  • Identify, assess and escalate material compliance risks and issues.
  • Maintain and develop the compliance risk and controls register.
  • Produce compliance reports, recommendations and management information for senior leadership.
  • Oversee compliance training, attestations and related processes.
  • Review and improve compliance processes to ensure they remain effective and fit for purpose.
  • Lead and support members of the compliance team, encouraging technical development and best practice.

You'll ideally have:
  • 5+ years' compliance experience within UK financial services.
  • You must have current approval for, or the ability to hold, SMF16 and SMF17.
  • Previous experience acting as an MLRO.
  • Strong knowledge of FCA regulations, SM&CR and financial services compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
  • The confidence to work independently and provide advice to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience with financial services back-office systems; Intelligent Office or Finplan would be advantageous.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word and Excel.
